Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying your Spring. Tomorrow, Saturday April 27th, we will be celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the River Region Photography Association with a BBQ at the new studio of Rebecca Moore in Oak Ridge, starting at 4:00pm. Everyone is invited and you can bring guests. Even if you haven't attended a meeting lately, we would love to see you. We will have BBQ pork and some drinks, with members providing a side dish/dessert. We will hold the event rain or shine, so please make plans to be there. It would help if you could reply to this post at dbuckenmyer@mindspring.com with an RSVP so we can plan on how many folks will be there.

Let's see how good our color discernment is. The link below takes you to a test that helps you see where your eyes need training. I had a 20 to start, with deficiency in the aquas and mustards. See where your color vision is lacking or strong.

As discussed at the January meeting of the River RegionPhotography Association, we have the opportunity to have an Adobe Certified Expertspeak to the club. I have just spoke with Mr. Jeff Hirsch and he has agreed togive a presentation at the February meeting, to be held on the 28th at6:30pm in the Cape Public Library Oscar Hirsch Room. I saw his presentation atthe MoNEP (Missouri Nature and Environmental Photographers) meeting and it wasvery informative. Jeff will speak on Adobe’s photo manipulation software, bothPhotoshop and Lightroom, and has experience in Aperture for those that use it. Ihope that everyone can make it to the February meeting to see Jeff’spresentation and get the information on these great programs.

We are in discussions about holding a two day intensiveIntroduction to Lightroom course somewhere here in Cape, with the two daysspread over a two week period so that the information presented in the firstclass can be digested and practiced in an effort to get meaningful questions atthe second session. This is usually an eight week course that Jeff teaches inthe St. Louis area, so he will be using us as guinea pigs, so to speak, bycondensing it into a two day class. There will be a charge for the class, andit will be open to the general public.

On a second note, the Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremontis holding a photo contest of pictures from the Smokies. If you have some shotstake in the GSM’s, you may want to check out the sight below and enter thecontest.

    RRPA Jan 24th Monthly Meeting

Meeting started at 6:45 at the Cape Public Library
Next meeting will be at 6:30 on 2/28 at the Cape PublicLibrary.

Dan suggested that we celebrate RRPA’s one year anniversaryby having a BBQ in April. “Possible” location could be Rebecca Moore’s newstudio in Oak Ridge.

Our website moderator Cheryl B. asked if anybody would liketo help with the website.
Contact Cheryl if you’re interested. Cheryl is also startinga new Photoshop class at the Cape Gir Career and Tech school on Thursday 1/24.Contact the school immediately if you’re interested. There is a minimum numberrequired to hold the class.

Dan told us that he has been researching other camera clubsincluding the St Louis Camera Club to get ideas for monthly meetings, activities and seminars. Everyone is encouraged to research other camera clubsto get ideas. Dan is also looking into us as individuals or as a club injoining the Photographic Society of America.
Dan has talked to well known Adobe Certified Expert, Jeff Hirsch, to cometo one of our meetings or have an all day Sat workshop at a minimal charge.Topics covered would be Lightroom and Photoshop. Date is still to bedetermined. www.jeffhirsch.com to see his offerings.

Bill Brennan gave a presentation on Mingo Wildlife Refugeand the upcoming Eagle Days at the adjoining Duck Creek Conservation area.Mingo has been upgrading various walk paths and roads to get ready for the newcenter and open house. Mingo is also in desperate need of volunteers to helpout at the new visitors center when it opens in the spring. The Mingo SwampFriends Photo contest is also open till 8/1/13. On another note, I found itreally interesting how Mingo came about. When the Little River DrainageDistrict drained the bottomlands south of Crowley’s Ridge, the area that makesup Mingo could never be successfully drained. It is believed that this area wasonce an abandoned Mississippi river channel. How times have changed.

Feb field trip will be the Eagle Days at the Mingo National Wildlife Refuge on February 2nd. If you would like to car pool, meet at the Cape NatureCenter by 8am. Meet the presenters at the Mingo maintenance shed on Hwy 51, north of Puxico at 9:00am. Dan will not be available so no guarantees as to who will be there. There have also been eagles spotted in southern Illinois at Horseshoe Lake andin Southeast Missouri at Ten Mile Pond down around East Prarie.

February Photo Challenge; Take a series of photos that tella story. This could be done over a couple of days or weeks. Examples could beseed plantings or something else that grows or changes over time.

A February presenter is needed. Call Dan if you have an ideafor a presentation. Also, the SE Missourian is looking for photos to add totheir Sunday edition. You may also display your photos at the Painted WrenGallery on Main St. Contact Aaron Horrell for more info.

Just a quick reminder that the January meeting of the RRPA is scheduled for the 24th, not the 31st, due to a scheduling conflict at the library. The meeting starts at 6:30pm and Bill Brennan will be presenting on the new visitor's center at the Mingo National Wildlife Refuge.
