Blood Moon Eclipse tonight

Here is a tutorial on how to set up for a great composition of the moon during tonight's lunar eclipse, which will give us a "blood" moon. Should be very cool.

Color Me Cape Map

Here is a map of the route that the Color Me Cape runners will take. The numbers on the map correlate with the positions of the color dousing stations. #1 will have the Bridge and River Campus in the background if you stand to the north, #2 the Federal Building and/or River Heritage Museum, #3 the Sherwood-Minton house, #4 is Isle of Capri and #5 is Red Letter communications. There will also be two different color dumps at the Bel-Aire Grille at 4pm and 5pm, with over 2500 people expected. Wear old clothing if you expect to get colorized. I will be getting more information tomorrow hopefully so that we can get the best shots.

Photo of the Day

Have you seen that we have been choosing a Photo of the Day and sharing it on our Facebook page and Twitter?  The above photo is Dan's photo of the Cape Girardeau bridge which was chosen today.

Everyone loves to see photos of their hometown and, therefore, we are requesting that you upload photos to the RRPA Flickr group of our communities covering Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Northwest Tennessee and Northeast Arkansas, as well as photos about Missouri, including between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis.

This is the time of year we head out on vacations and trips to see local places.  Get your camera ready and share and help us grow the associations social networking followers.

Of course, current photos, especially of seasonal and current activities, are best, but older photos are welcome too.

Anyone is welcome to add photos to the Flickr group, even if they are not a member of the association, so tell your friends. All skill levels are welcome, so do not be intimidated. Wouldn't it be great for us to work together to share news-worthy content in the social stream?

We do not promise to choose a photo every day, but as often as we can.  Feel free to re-share the posts so that others may find our great association and might follow us or even join us.

RRPA April News

Hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather. Here are some items that may be of interest to you:

  • There is a Photo Field Trip scheduled for this weekend at Pinecrest Azalea Gardens. Unfortunately, the azaleas are not in bloom yet, so, as discussed at the March meeting, the Field Trip has been moved to the Charleston Dogwood & Azalea Festival on Saturday morning. Members in the Cape area can meet at the McDonalds next to Wal*Mart in Cape at 3pm. The trip to Charleston will take 45-60 minutes. For those of you that live to the south of Cape, you can meet at the Casey's General Store at the corner of Rt 62 and S. 3rd St. The festival uses Rowling Park as a headquarters, so the group can find a place to park and meet at the intersection of Stark St and E Commerce. There is a whole list of things to do, including a dog show and other events. The Candlelight Tour is awesome, and the sunset is 7:29pm with an almost full moon. Unfortunately, I (Dan) will not be able to make it there this weekend as I will be in St Louis both days. You can check out the schedule of events here:  http://www.charlestonmo.org/festival/
  • There is a great opportunity to get shots here in Cape on Saturday. The Color Me Cape 5k run will be starting at 2pm at the Bel-Air Grille in downtown Cape. The "runners" (anyone can take part and it is not a timed event, so even if you are not the fastest person, you can walk the course) will be doused with powdered colors (colored cornstarch) at each of 5 different stations, so that by the end of the race they are a tie-dyed work of art. There are events scheduled for the end of the race back at the Bel-Air starting at 3pm, with the SEMO cheerleaders and a band playing on the main stage. There will also be vendors and sponsor tents set up. They are expecting up to 2000 participants, so get there early and find a good parking spot. See more info at www.colormecape.com
  • The next meeting of the RRPA is set for Thursday, April 24th at the Cape Library starting at 6:30pm. We are looking to line up a guest speaker for this meeting, and have one set for the May meeting. If you have a suggestion or want to present at this meeting, please contact me at dan@riverregionphoto.com
