RRPA Meet and Greet and teach

Hi Folks, Dan here. Just wanted to remind everyone that the RRPA is having a meet and greet at the Cape Arts Council on Saturday from 11am to 1pm. All members are invited to be on hand to assist the general public to learn their cameras and the art of photography, and to answer any questions about the photos in our display there this month. Hope to see you there.

First Friday, Saturday Event and Arts Council Event

Just a quick reminder that we have a few events coming up over the next week. The First Friday Art Walk, which normally happens on the first Friday of the month, was postponed to this Friday, July 11th, due to the first Friday of the month falling on July 4th. Come downtown and see the RRPA photo display at the Arts Council and wander the shops and galleries.

On Saturday, July 12th, we are scheduled to visit the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Shrine in Perryville at 10am. Those wishing to meet at the Fruitland D-Mart may do so at 9:15am, while those wishing to meet in Perryville can do so at Hoeckles Donuts at 9:45am or at the shrine at 10am. Dan may not be able to attend this event, so those wishing to attend should meet and leave at the predescribed time.

For those of you that are interested and/or those that have photos in the RRPA Photo display at the Arts Council, we are scheduled for a meet and greet, plus a program where we assist the general public with learning how to take better photos on Saturday, July 19th from 11am-1pm at the Arts Council. All members are welcome to attend, and those with photos are strongly encouraged to attend. This event has already been advertised in the S.E. Missourian, with a story detailing the upcoming event, and will be noted there again closer to that date.

If you have any questions, please call Dan at 573-225-6593. The email address dan@riverregionphoto.com is no longer in service, so please email him at dbuckenmyer@mindspring.com with any questions or comments.

Photo Field Trip this Saturday

Don't forget that there is a Photo Field Trip in Jackson this Saturday evening at 6pm. Meet at the gazebo. That is if we aren't having a hurricane at the time.

Notes from May RRPA Meeting - Next meeting news

· Next Meeting June 26 6:30pm @ West Side Camera on North Kingshighway next to Andy’s Frozen Custard
· Photo Field Trip: Saturday Evening, June 14, 6pm. Downtown Jackson. Meet at the Gazebo. There will be a car show on the east side of the square, so park on the west side. We can shoot the show, S. High St., buildings downtown and the courthouse.
 · June Photo Challenge is Splish—Splash. Try to get creative while capturing water and/or its effects. Use your manual settings to set a slow shutter speed (1/10th of a second or slower, with a tripod) to get that silky effect in a waterfall, a fast shutter (1/1000 or faster) to “freeze” droplets in place. You can also get shots of erosion, rivers, lakes, puddles or fountains… The main thing is to think outside the tap.
· Website of the month: jpg.com
· Don’t forget that RRPA members get a 20% discount at Staples on print shop material. Just show your card.
· If you are interested in showing your art in a gallery, please contact Aaron Horrell at the Painted Wren Gallery, 5 N. Main St, Cape Girardeau, MO
· Mingo Swamp 2014 Photo Contest, due August 1st http://www.fws.gov/refuge/mingo/visitor_activities/photo_contest.html
· SEMissourian Managing Director Lindsey Jones has asked if we have any members that would like to be stringers -  people that they can call and have cover an event or news story in case they don’t have enough photographers to cover—if you are interested, contact her with a brief synopsis of your experience, a couple examples of your work and your contact information at ljones@semissourian.com or 388-3652
-First Friday Art Walk, Friday, June 7th, Downtown Cape Girardeau.
-We are scheduled to display at the Arts Council in July of 2014. Do you have your photo and description ready? Please include where, when, why and how you took the shot, with camera settings and your feelings as to why you chose to take that shot. Any size will do. We should be able to have 2 shots per member.  You can bring your photos to the June meeting at West Side Camera or drop them off there up to June 27.
